About us

I'm Alice, and I've spent the last 10 years working as a private tutor specialising in KS2, KS3 and KS4 Maths, including GCSE Further Maths and Functional Skills. I started Compass Learning because I believe tutoring should be shaped entirely around the child in front of you, not a fixed programme everyone follows the same way. Whatever direction your child is heading, it would be a pleasure to help them get there!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer 1-to-1 or group sessions?
Both! 1-to-1 sessions are fully tailored to your child and available across all subjects. Group sessions (up to 5 students) are a great option if your child enjoys learning alongside others, or if you'd like to share the cost with another family — though for GCSE Maths, GCSE Further Maths, and Year 6 SATs preparation, we recommend 1-to-1 to keep things fully focused on your child.

How do group sessions work?
Groups need a minimum of 3 suitable students at a similar level before a session is confirmed, so there may be a short wait after you register interest. We'll be in touch as soon as we have enough students to get a group started, and you'll only book and pay once it's confirmed.

How do sessions actually happen — are they in person or online?
All sessions are held online, so your child can learn from home. We recommend younger children sit somewhere in a shared family space rather than alone, just for comfort and safety. All you need is a device and an internet connection — a Zoom link is sent ahead of every session.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?
We understand that life happens, we just ask for 24 hours' notice where possible. If we ever need to cancel on our end (illness, unavailability), we'll always find a new slot that works for you, at no extra cost.

How do I get started?
Just get in touch through our booking form and let us know your child's year group and what they need support with. We'll arrange the details, and if you're not sure what's right for your child, you're welcome to book a free 15-minute chat first — totally optional.

1-to-1 Tutoring

Every 1-to-1 session is planned around your child specifically, their strengths, their gaps, and the pace that actually works for them. Available across every subject and key stage we offer, from early Primary through to GCSE, Functional Skills and any retakes.

Small Group Tutoring

Group sessions are built around a specific topic each term. Each session is planned in advance, with worksheets provided, so every group runs to a clear, structured plan rather than being figured out on the spot.
